Week 3 picks

Last week: 11-5 Last night: 0-1 Season record: 21-11 So while I had the fact that the game last night would be close, I must eat crow not only that I picked it wrong, but that it wound up being a great game.  The Rams could wind up being interesting this season.  They already are at 2-1.  Now on to the rest of the games.... Baltimore vs. Jacksonville at London --The whole London thing has gone from annoying novelty to semi-regular series to what will likely be an every week occurrence at some point.  You know it's going there.  Yet, now that they started having the games locally in the evening, giving us an NFL game here in Wisconsin at 8:30am and making football truly an all-day event...well, suddenly it doesn't suck as much.  For the players and coaches, that's a different story, but they do make more money than me.   Ravens 19, Jags 13 Cleveland at Indianapolis --Barring a tie, one of these teams will get their first win of the season.  ...

Week 3 picks: Thursday Night Football

Last week: 11-5 Season record: 21-10 Hey everyone.....there have been some weird results the first two weeks, but now things should come into a bit of a clearer focus.  Whether or not that makes picking the games easier, that always remains to be seen. LA Rams at San Francisco --Boy, what a doozy this is.  It's like the NFL picks its worst match up of the week for the Thursday prime-time game.  Even the London game on Sunday is more enticing. After demolishing the Colts in Week 1, the Rams came back down to earth and lost to the Redskins. The Niners, meanwhile, have added Mike Shanahan's mini-me as coach and they look, well, improved--which couldn't be hard to do considering how bad the last few seasons have gone.  So tonight I think Kyle Shanahan gets his first win as a head coach, in a game that maybe 15 people will watch.   Niners 17, Rams 16

Week 2 picks

Last week: 10-5 Last night: 0-1 Season record: 10-6 Like I've said before, these first few weeks of the NFL season are extremely difficult to predict.  That's also what makes it fun, unless you root for the Bengals or Texans.  So let's have at it..... Cleveland at Baltimore --Almost twenty years later, it's clear that Art Modell not only moved the Browns out of Cleveland.  He moved any hope of Cleveland ever finishing in third place in the AFC North again.  Well, maybe the Bengals will have something to say about that this year.   Ravens 23, Browns 10 Chicago at Tampa Bay --I'm assuming the Bucs' stadium hasn't been destroyed the Hurricane Irma, and now Tampa will have to contend with Hurricane Glennon.  Somehow I don't think they'll need to evacuate for that.   Bucs 34, Bears 17 Minnesota at Pittsburgh --Is it possible that Antonio Brown keeps getting better every year?  One of these days he's going to rack up 400 yards in one game. ...

Week 2 picks: Thursday Night Football

Last week: 10-5 Season record: 10-5 Well, I thought I took a serious beating last week, but actually things didn't turn out so bad.  It's hard to gauge these early few weeks but heading into October we should have a clearer picture.  Here is tonight's pick.... Houston at Cincinnati --So, the two teams playing tonight scored a grand total of 7 points last week.  Something tells me we are in for the first scoreless tie in modern NFL history.  Or at least in for a game that almost no one will want to watch, that no one will watch, or that no one will admit to having watched tomorrow.  And this includes fans of both teams.   Bengals 13, Texans 10

Week 1 picks

Greetings fellow NFL fans.  We've made it to the first Sunday of the NFL season, after seven months of wondering and waiting.  They keep saying football is a year-round event, but if you are a fan the only thing that matters is game time.  so let's have some fun picking these..... NY Jets at Buffalo --I grew up in New York a Giants fan.  I have many friends that are Jets fans.  I know it's easy for me to say I feel their pain, but I really do.  And  this year, the Jets are going to be hot garbage, perhaps being lucky to win two games.   Bills 33, Jets 10 Jacksonville at Houston --Here's hoping this game will help the good people of Houston (and probably of Jacksonville too) cope with hurricane damage, if only to let them forget about it for three hours.  The game itself....the Jags are still QB'd by Blake Bortles and Chad Henne.  Yeah.   Texans 19, Jaguars 13 Pittsburgh at Cleveland --You wanna talk about a franchise that's be...

Week 1 picks: Thursday night kickoff

hey everyone!  We have made it through yet another insufferably long NFL off season.  This year I am reviving my picks blog, but since Mikey's Crystal Ball will not let me post anything new, I've started this one.  Yes the name is lame, so I may change it later.  But I did want to get this first pick out there, and will pick the remaining games tomorrow or over the weekend.  So with that, let's do this! Kansas City at New England --This season there are no Tom Brady suspensions looming for the Patriots, and to be honest, they proved last year that their golden boy and golden head coach can win it all even when said golden boy sits for the first four games.  The Chiefs, still run by a large red walrus, are never an easy out for the Pats or any team.  Andy Reid will have his defense prepared, and his own golden boy, a.k.a. the Great Game Manager Alex Smith, attempting to spoil opening night for Foxboro fans.  But let's face it--does anyone really ...
