Week 13 picks

Last week: 11-3 Season record: 110-66-1 It's Thanksgiving week!  And that means we have three games tomorrow, and that we can also look forward to the weekend and the fact that there are no byes the rest of the season.  So let's get the party started...... Chicago at Detroit --I remember my dad always saying the Lions play well on Thanksgiving day, even when they sucked, which was most of the time.  So despite the Lions likely going to their third string QB, I'm going to honor my dad here (probably not a stretch considering how bad the Bears have looked this season).  Lions 23, Bears 20 Buffalo at Dallas --I just had to do a double take--the Bills are 8-3 and Cowboys 6-5?  Also where are Jim Kelly and Emmitt Smith when you need them?  Cowboys 28, Bills 17 New Orleans at Atlanta --There will not be another embarrassing loss like a few weeks ago in New Orleans, right?  Saints 35, Falcons 20 Cleveland at Pittsburgh --This game will likely determ...

Week 12 picks

Last week: 12-2 Season record: 99-63-1 Six more weeks of regular season games.  I really wish the season didn't whiz by at breakneck speed, but it always does.  And it's definitely great to watch the playoff picture come into focus.  So here we go..... Indianapolis at Houston --Frank Reich has turned out to be a pretty freaking great coach.  You just have to wonder what would have happened had Josh McDaniels not screwed the Colts over.  Colts 23, Texans 22 Seattle at Philadelphia --This is the kind of game Russell Wilson needs to have a good showing in to bolster his MVP chances.  And this is the kind of game the Eagles need to win in order to bolster their playoff chances.  Eagles 23, Seahawks 20 Detroit at Washington --I was on the Dwayne Haskins train before the draft for my Giants, but now it's looking like the G-men got the better QB.  Skins 19, Lions 17 Oakland at NY Jets --The last two weeks against the Giants and then Skins, Sam ...

Week 11 picks

Last week: 7-6 Season record: 87-61-1 So, last week happened.  The Niners finally lost a game, the Dolphins won their second straight game, and the Falcons destroyed the Saints in New Orleans.  This season may go down as one of the weirdest ever.  So let's throw some spaghetti at the wall! Pittsburgh at Cleveland --I really wonder if the Browns will get this many prime time games next season.  Browns 24, Steelers 23 NY Jets at Washington --I'm almost surprised that this isn't the Monday night game.  Skins 24, Jets 13 New Orleans at Tampa Bay --I'm gonna go ahead and assume the Saints' loss last week was an anomaly.  Saints 23, Bucs 20 Denver at Minnesota --Quietly the Vikings are looking really good and that won't change Sunday.  I think.  I hope I think that I'm right.  Vikings 26, Broncos 10 Buffalo at Miami --Can we get three in a row?  It's tempting but I think Miami comes back down to earth.  Bills 21, Dolphins 17 ...

Week 10 picks

Last week: 9-5 Season record: 80-55-1 There are weird things happening all around us.  The picks in some ways are getting easier but you will inevitably have statistical anomalies--like the Patriots giving up about 70% of the total points they have given up through 8 games, on one Sunday night.  Speaking of Sunday night, I had no idea that there was some kind of lawsuit about the theme song of SNF, probably because the NFL vultured a Joan Jett song's chords and melody.  So now it's Carrie Underwood AND Joan Jett.  I didn't know this because I try to never put myself in position to hear that abomination.  I leave the room or hit mute or start the game 10 minutes in.  Anyway I'm a music publicist in another life and one of our clients, Kate Mills, just released a song that is ballsy and melodic and the title, "Outrun the Night" can be altered to be "On Sunday Night."  I mean, the song kicks ass, check it out .  Hey NFL and NBC, call me, okay?...

Week 9 picks

Last week: 12-3 Season record: 71-50-1 Holy balls, the 49ers are 8-0!  I didn't think of it until now, but people are probably starting to speculate that Jimmy G vs. the Patriots would make a juicy story line for a Super Bowl.  And now, for the rest of the games.... Houston vs. Jacksonville at London --Ah yes, another UK game, and the main reason most Americans are happy about this is because we will be graced with a morning game again.  Minshew Mania goes international!  Jags 23, Texans 20 Indianapolis at Pittsburgh --I seriously cannot believe that every team in the AFC South is .500 or better.  Especially that the Colts are 5-2 while Andrew Luck and his beard are enjoying retirement.  Colts 27, Steelers 24 Chicago at Philadelphia --The names change but we can always count on the Bears' kicker to choke in miserable fashion.  This game is going to be a reminder to Chicago fans of that painful playoff game, but Cody Parkey is gone and no...
