Week 17 picks

Last week: 10-6 Season record: 147-93-1 We've reached the dreaded final weekend of the NFL regular season, which seems inexplicable despite the fact that we say that every season.  Here are the picks in the free-for-all that is having 16 games in one day..... Atlanta at Tampa Bay --Of all the story lines this season, the one of Dan Quinn likely retaining his job after such a dreadful start is one of the most shocking.  Bucs 24, Falcons 21 Miami at New England --I read somewhere today that Tom Brady is considering retirement after this season, but does anyone doubt he will play until he's 50?  Pats 30, Dolphins 13 Chicago at Minnesota --The Vikings I believe are locked into the 6-seed, so while there isn't as much to play for it's hard to imagine Mike Zimmer allowing his team to coast into Wild Card Weekend.  Vikings 23, Bears 14 LA Chargers at Kansas City --Does anyone remember how dominant the Chargers were in the wild card round last year when they shock...

Week 16 picks

Last week: 9-7 Season record: 137-87-1 Rolling right along, huh?  At this point most playoff seeds are set, but hopefully we'll get at least two games that come down to the wire in Week 17.  But regardless, the playoffs are gonna be wide open (except for the fucking Patriots).  Let's see what's on tap for this week.....where three Saturday games replace the Thursday game: Houston at Tampa Bay --Remember when Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with cancer a few years back and Bruce Arians was the interim coach, and he had the Colts playing way above their heads?  I think he's doing that again with the Bucs, and has Jameis Winston having a career year.  Aside from Mike Tomlin, I think Arians will get some coach of the year consideration.  Texans 27, Bucs 24 Buffalo at New England --If Buffalo wins this game, there will be a two-way tie atop the AFC East, and you should read that line again because I can't believe I just wrote it.  And the way the Bills ar...

Week 15 picks

Last week: 11-5 Season record: 128-80-1 So, damn, the season is almost over.  Well, for Giants fans like me, and the other handful of teams that have been mathematically eliminated and practically eliminated.  Twelve lucky teams and fan bases will roll along into the postseason and we will crown the fucking Patriots again.  But hey, on to the Week 15 picks..... NY Jets at Baltimore --Seriously, do they need to actually play this one?  Ravens 31, Jets 9 Miami at NY Giants --I need to know--did the Dolphins camp out in East Rutherford all week to play their second straight game at Met Life?  Also, Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to shred that awful Giants' D.  Dolphins 28, Giants 23 Seattle at Carolina --Seattle is vulnerable and ripe for an upset, but Russell Wilson is too good for that to happen.  Seahawks 24, Panthers 20 New England at Cincinnati --The thing I don't get is why the Patriots have to cheat, ever.  They have the best coach and th...

Week 14 picks

Last week: 7-9 Season record: 117-75-1 I was starting to get cocky the past few weeks but was slapped back to reality last weekend when there were some inexplicable upsets.  We are getting some clarity on the postseason but still there are so many questions that need answers.  So giddyup! Dallas at Chicago --The Bears have climbed back to .500 and the Cowboys have dropped to .500 after a humiliating home defeat to Buffalo on Thanksgiving.  Hell if I know what's going to happen here.  Cowboys 24, Bears 17 Indianapolis at Tampa Bay --Do you realize that if Matthew Gay didn't go wide right on a chip shot against the Giants in Week 3, the Bucs would be 6-6?  Yet they always look terrible.  So of course I'm picking them.  Bucs 27, Colts 26 Miami at NY Jets --Uhhhhhhh.  I'm calling an audible.  Or something.  Jets 19, Dolphins 16 San Francisco at New Orleans --A possible preview of the NFC title game, and for the second straight week...
