Conference championship picks
Last week: 0-4 (ha!)
Season record: 161-121-1
What the hell was that? Everyone is not incorrectly calling it the single greatest weekend of NFL games ever. I felt like I needed a weeks vacation after that, and I didn't even have a dog in any of those fights. However, I was rooting hard for the Bills, and so I felt on some tiny level the pain that that entire fan base must have been feeling and probably still feels and will feel for at least 8 more months. But hey, there are games this weekend too! It's very likely we'll have a letdown in competitiveness. It's also very possible the games will be just as insane as last week. We can only hope. So with that, let's pick 'em!
Cincinnati at Kansas City--The Bengals upset the Chiefs just four weeks ago, and if you feel like you've aged 20 football years since then, you are definitely not alone. How is it possible that game was in 2022? So it stands to reason that Cincinnati can actually win this one. Hell, they knocked off the 1-seed last week. But then when you factor in how Patrick Mahomes is in his "I'm not losing, and you can't make me lose" zone, it becomes a monumental task....especially in GAK Stadium, or whatever the hell they call it. That place was LOUD and it's gonna be just as loud tomorrow. Oh and Joey B. cannot take 9 sacks this time. Throw the ball away, dude. Spags must be frothing at the mouth with his blitz packages right now. So I can't pick against KC, not now and not next week should they (they will) advance to the Super Bowl. Chiefs 42, Bengals 38
San Francisco at LA Rams--It took, what, 55 years for the first "home" game for one of the two teams in the Super Bowl, last year's Bucs. So of course it's quite possible for the Rams to play in their home stadium if they win in that stadium tomorrow. But this will not be easy. Sure, you destroyed Kyler's Cards at home, and then you eliminated the world champs in Tampa last week. But you've lost to this Niners team twice in the past two months, including 30-27 in OT in the final game of Week 18. You could have eliminated these guys then, and you'll have another chance now, but this can't be who the Rams want to face. But face them, they must. I expect a lot of defense, but I also can't see this being too low scoring of a game. The Rams will win this time--only because the law of averages says they should. Rams 27, Niners 24
