Divisional Round picks
Last week: 4-2
Season record: 85-39-1
Many people, including yours truly, consider this the best weekend in football. We've weeded out the lesser playoff teams, and while there are only four games, the matchups feature the best teams in the NFL. This is when some really good teams go home, and when four teams will be one win from the Super Bowl. Yeah I know I'm stating the obvious, but I'm just really giddy--not because of the quality of the games, but because my New York Football Giants are still standing. I did not pick them to win last week but was thrilled that they did. Now they look to upset the 1-seed Eagles, which is very unlikely but after watching last week, not completely out of the question. So you're saying there's a chance? Yes I am. Let's get to it......
Jacksonville at Kansas City--If anyone knows Andy Reid's coaching tendencies, it's Jags' coach Doug Pederson, who played for Reid and coached under him. This Jags team is young and loaded with talent, particularly QB Trevor Lawrence, who miraculously came back from 4 first half interceptions and a 27-0 deficit to stun the Chargers in the second half and win 31-30. But the Chiefs are not the Chargers, and Patrick Mahomes is the likely NFL MVP. Chiefs 35, Jaguars 27
NY Giants at Philadelphia--The Eagles are the 1-seed and practically had that wrapped up by Week 8. Jalen Hurts is still not 100% but even so, the Eagles have way more talent than the Giants. But right now that does not matter. The G-men under Brian Daboll are fighters who have no fear. Daniel Jones has ice water in his veins, and is finally in a system, and frankly has become a seasoned badass practically overnight. It is gonna be electric at the Linc but I'm glad I'll be watching from my den. I think the Giants and their fans (hi!) are tired of being bullied by the Eagles and nothing would be sweeter than knocking them off that high horse. Yeah, man. Giants 30, Eagles 29
Cincinnati at Buffalo--This is going to be a celebration of sorts before the game kicks off. It will have been 20 days since the awful sight of Damar Hamlin needing CPR on the field and leaving that field in an ambulance heading to a Cincinnati hospital. The NFL and teams and players and fans all held our collective breath, hoping and praying Damar would wake up and be okay. Well, he did wake up and is as okay as can be expected. Sean McDermott said Hamlin has been coming to the facility every day. If he is at the game, it'll be the best part of everyone's football weekend regardless of any game action and results. Bills 38, Bengals 34
Dallas at San Francisco--Is Brock Purdy actually the future at QB for the Niners? It sure is an interesting proposition and has to piss off teams like the Jets who keep drafting the wrong QBs. I think he will have trouble with Micah Parsons and the Dallas D but the 49ers are a well oiled machine on offense and they haven't lost a game since October. Oh and their defense doesn't suck and will make Dak's life miserable. Niners 27, Cowboys 24
