Week 14 picks
Last week: 11-5
Season record: 127-62-2
Things are getting good now. Despite crazy parity and swings from one week to the next, there are about three or four or five elite teams with the rest wanting to try their best to sneak into the party and see how long they can stay. So with that, let's do some picking!
NY Jets at Buffalo--The first thing I did was to check the weather, because it's Buffalo in December. And, well, the weather is going to be downright summery--30 degrees and sunny! Not that weather would impact either of these northern (and not-very-good) teams. Bills 17, Jets 13
Carolina at Cleveland--This appears to be an even match up and maybe it is, but consider this--the Browns are 3-2-1 at home, 1-5 on the road. The Panthers are 5-1 at home, 1-5 on the road. You don't have to be a rocket scientist, or even a stats geek to see where this is headed. Browns 27, Panthers 26
Atlanta at Green Bay--Might Mike McCarthy tune in to watch this one Sunday? Might Mike McCarthy still even live in Green Bay Sunday? Might Mike McCarthy's ex-employer bring their playoff hopes back from the dead? Answer key: maybe-maybe-no. Packers 30, Falcons 23
Indianapolis at Houston--Do you think you could knit a sweater from Andrew Luck's neck beard? Texans 22, Colts 20
Baltimore at Kansas City--I saw that one of the NFL Network's pundits picked the Ravens to win this game because they're on a roll or something. The Chiefs' two losses this season were to the Patriots and Rams, both on the road. They scored a combined NINETY ONE points in those two losses, and are at home today where they are 5-0. Slow your own roll there, sparky. Chiefs 34, Ravens 27
New England at Miami--I don't think the Patriots need to play regular season games. Just pencil them in for 12-4 and go straight to the start of the divisional round. Pats 24, Dolphins 20
New Orleans at Tampa Bay--That opening Sunday loss to Tampa at home for the Saints feels like 10 years ago. Saints 45, Bucs 17
NY Giants at Washington--Sure enough, everyone is now jumping on the Giants' bandwagon after them showing signs of life in the past month. The Skins are down to you and me at QB, so for that reason only I'm picking the G-men for the first time this year. Don't make me look bad, Eli. Giants 27, Redskins 24
Cincinnati at LA Chargers--You know that there are kids today who think the Chargers are named for those thingeys that charge ipads and phones. There has to be. Chargers 35, Bengals 10
Denver at San Francisco--Vance Joseph deserves coach of the year consideration. Broncos 23, Niners 17
Detroit at Arizona--The one game this week that will be watched by a combined 59 households today. Cards 20, Lions 16
Philadelphia at Dallas--This game will be unwatchable for two reasons--Joe, and Buck. Cowboys 24, Eagles 21
Pittsburgh at Oakland--Old school John Madden vs. Chuck Noll match up. Or something. I have a weird feeling about this game but I'm simply not going to act on that feeling. Steelers 33, Raiders 30
LA Rams at Chicago--Um, it's gonna be 20 degrees tonight. The Rams have looked a tad vulnerable and Trubisky is back. Bears 28, Rams 26
Minnesota at Seattle--I saw that another pundit (or maybe the same one who picked the Ravens over KC) picked Minnesota in Seattle--in Seattle, on a Monday night. That pundit will be wrong and the Vikes may play themselves out of contention. Seahawks 24, Vikings 20
