Week 12 Turkey Day picks
Last week: 4-9
Season record: 103-53-2
So I had a feeling last week would be as wacky as it turned out to be, and it was! It's good when unexpected things happen, but there has been some weird shit this season. Anyway, here are the picks for the three Thanksgiving games:
Chicago at Detroit--I'm not sure what the Lions' record is on Thanksgiving. But I remember watching football as a kid, back when the Lions were really terrible, and my dad saying that there were some strange forces at work that made them play well on Turkey Day. He passed away four years ago, but every year on this day I think of that, and can't possibly pick against Detroit. Lions 26, Bears 24
Washington at Dallas--Okay, that was some fucked up shit last Sunday. Joe Theismann was in the building, 33 years TO THE DAY that Lawrence Taylor snapped the guy's leg in a way that should never be snapped. And what do you know, Skins' QB Alex Smith has his leg broken in two places by Kareem Jackson and JJ Watt. I don't like seeing replays of either injury, but dammit if the replay gods don't like showing them over and over again. Cowboys 27, Redskins 17
Atlanta at New Orleans--Sean Payton gives zero fucks about football etiquette, and its unwritten rule that if you are crushing your opponent late in the game, you take your foot off the gas. So yeah, it was kind of dickish that Payton called a 60 yard go route against the Eagles, at a time when the Saints were already up something like 41-7 on the defending champion Eagles. It made me uncomfortable, but then I remembered it was the Eagles and I was okay with it. Saints 52, Falcons 24
