Week 5 picks

Last week: 11-4
Season record: 41-21-2

So here we go into the second quarter of the NFL season.  We've all had a chance to feel things out and try to get a handle on how this season will ultimately go, but part of the beauty of sports is that you never know what can happen.  So let's do this!

Tennessee at Buffalo--The Titans have a very stingy defense.  The Bills, if you take away that 27-6 mega upset of Minnesota, are averaging under 8 points per game in their three losses.  Whatever the over/under is, take the under (that's not actual gambling advice, so don't come looking for me if you bet money on that and lose).  Titans 13, Bills 9

NY Giants at Carolina--I'm a Giants fan and while I didn't expect a complete turnaround, I didn't expect the same shit as last year and the year before, with maybe a slightly better run game and punter.  They can't contain a good mobile QB like Cam, so I expect more of the same garbage.  Panthers 27, Giants 17

Miami at Cincinnati--Incredibly, we are looking at two of the elite AFC teams through the quarter pole.  Since I can't go out on a limb and predict a tie (don't think it can't happen in this one), I'll go with the home team.  Bengals 24, Dolphins 20

Baltimore at Cleveland--It's been almost 20 years since the start of the "new Browns" after the "old Browns" became these Ravens. And in that time the Browns have made the playoffs ONE time.  Well this team may actually win as many games as they lose, assuming Baker Mayfield stays healthy.  Every fiber of my being is telling me to take the Ravens but I just have this feeling.  Browns 22, Ravens 21

Green Bay at Detroit--Is Aaron Rodgers currently upright?  Yeah?  Okay.  Packers 31, Lions 24

Jacksonville at Kansas City--This could actually be an AFC title game preview.  I sometimes feel like the prime time schedulers should start flexing around Week 5.  Chiefs 23, Jags 16

Denver at NY Jets--I grew up in New York and I don't ever remember the Giants and Jets playing at the same time unless they were playing each other.  Any stats wonks out there that can verify that?  Jets 19, Broncos 17

Atlanta at Pittsburgh--Take the over in this one, it's got shootout written all over it (note: again don't take that as gambling advice...unless you take that advice and win, of course).  Steelers 45, Falcons 42

Oakland at LA Chargers--Old Man Rivers (pun intended out of convenience) can still sling it, can't he?  I'm not sure if Old Man Gruden can still coach.  Chargers 28, Raiders 17

Minnesota at Philadelphia--A do-over if you will for the Vikings, but this time they won't be facing the mighty Nick Foles.  Eagles 27, Vikings 20

Arizona at San Francisco--The Cards may be slightly improve with Josh Rosen in there, but still....they average just over 9 points per game.  Ouch.  Cards 17, Niners 16

LA Rams at Seattle--Can the 12th man cause an upset?  I don't think with an actual 12th man on the field it would much matter.  The Rams are kind of a juggernaut right now.  Rams 34, Seahawks 24

Dallas at Houston--We're starting to see DeShaun Watson put the Texans on his back...he played well against the Giants in a loss and then led his team to their first win last Sunday in Indy.  Texans 27, Cowboys 23

Washington at New Orleans--The Skins are rested but the Saints are on a roll.  I have no idea if that matters or not, but there it is.  Saints 31, Redskins 24
